SSEM Mthembu Medical recently participated in the 33rd National Blood Transfusion Congress, which was held between the 24th and the 27rd of August 2015, at the Champagne Sports Resort, Drakensburg, KwaZulu-Natal. The theme of the congress was “Conserving precious resources from donor to patient”. The focus was on managing valuable resources such as blood donors, sufficient safe blood and blood products, appropriate usage of blood and retaining skilled staff.

The congress hosted 450 delegates along with 30 exhibitors. There were a number of delegates from neighbouring countries and other African regions present, to widen the pool of knowledge and ensure growth of blood transfusion practice on our continent.

SSEM Mthembu involvement was silver sponsorship along with sponsorship of registration and a prize for the delegate treasure hunt which proved to be hugely popular. It was a great opportunity to meet with clients, share knowledge and network with other professionals in field of Blood Transfusion. SSEM Mthembu held a daily competition for a limited edition of “Springbok Bear Thembu” which resulting in the majority of delegates visiting the stand on a daily basis in hope of having their name drawn. The three days were filled with motivational and ethical topics along with full days of lectures, with parallel sessions and poster sessions.

Mr Samuel Soh and Mrs Pauline Toh from JMS, the blood bag supplier for whom SSEM Mthembu Medical are the Sub-Sahara Africa distributor were also present and were able to share some our South African hospitality besides their great contribution to the industry. The social part of the program was a lively She‘been evening hosted by Siemens and a spectacular gala dinner hosted by Ilex with the live band “Men in Black” having the delegates dance till early hours.

SSEM Mthembu Medical would like to thank all delegates and trade that made this event a highly successful one. Thank you to the congress organising committee to their hard work and commitment to make the congress and memorable and fantastic event.
